30 (blogs) for (turning) 30: Day 20: Friendly Promotion

Posted: May 4, 2014 in Uncategorized

I shouldn’t do this because my friend who is to be the recipient of my promotion here admits that he doesn’t have time for my blog. And that he thought I’d already turned 30 even though we’ve had the conversation numerous times about how he’s going to be out of the state on my birthday. I’ll bet he knows when his trip to Los Angeles is without a problem.

But seriously. I’m keeping this short and sweet because there’s not much to say. My friend Ryan Heefner has been in film school for the past four years in Wintson-Salem, and he’s spent the last year and a half or so working on a documentary about one of his favorite subjects: craft beer. There’s a brewery here in Charlotte called NoDa, and the documentary–called Smile, We Get to Make Beer–follows the people who work there through a year at the brewery. He’s super excited about it. And it’s coming out at the end of this month.

So if you’re reading this and you live in the Charlotte area, there’s a premiere happening at the Studio Movie Grill on May 27 at 7PM. The cost is $12, and if you show up you get some free goodies and to see the film in a really nice theatre. There will be a Q&A with Ryan and some of the brewery folks afterwards, too. If you’re able, come out and show some support for local businesses. I’m sure Ryan would appreciate the support. You can buy your tickets to the premiere here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/smile-we-get-to-make-beer-premier-tickets-11471480507?aff=eac2

God bless,

Robert
